Cole and Vilitigo

So this is my son Cole, he has Vilitigo. He doesn't know he has vilitigo, he just knows he is a 3 1/2 year old boy having fun with life.

So I have to pose a question here. Cole starts preschool in a few short weeks. You see vilitigo when you look at Cole. His hands, legs, arms, back, every place but the face.

I'm sure kids will point this out to him so really I want to try and sit down with him and explain to him why he looks like that. I don't think I should wait until a kid says something and it shocks him that he does look different. I don't think I should let it go and hope the kids don't mention anything.

In all honestly I don't know what to do? Ideas?

I'm thinking of telling him that God made all of us different and this is how he made you different.

In the photo that is a picture of Coles hand. It's not a clear photo but you get the idea.

I think you are on the right track. If its not curable, then I would tell him God gives gifts and this is his. or like you said God makes us all different.

Yup, God made us all different. What we told Logan was that his brain is wired differently than most people (autism) so he thinks differently. I make sure to point out how everyone has strengths and weaknesses. He's great at math and I'm mathmatically challenged. I would point out some differences to Cole like glasses on people and stuff . Other than that, we are all special in God's eyes.

I agree with Penny and Pat. You could either sit him down before school starts or you could save your bullets and wait until it is mentioned at school. You never know, the kids at his school may have their own little differences and accept Cole as the wonderful creation of God that he is.

What a caring mom you are. I think you are right to explain that we all are different. Hearing it from you will give him the confidence he needs as he grows up and deals with all of life's challenges. I am a fellow gluten free person. Come visit my garden and see my challenges at mysisterdalesgarden
